Ottawa, October 25, 2013 — Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander issued the following statement regarding the final sentencing in the Settlement and Integration Services Organization (SISO) fraud case:
“I was pleased to see all three people involved in the SISO affair have been sentenced for their crimes.
“Those who attempt to defraud the government and divert taxpayers’ money for their own personal gain should be punished to the fullest possible extent.
“Our government remains committed to providing newcomers in Hamilton and across Canada the tools they need to succeed.
“We will also continue pursuing repayment of the pilfered funds, and continue to strengthen the internal checks that allowed us to uncover this malfeasance in the first place.”
