Ottawa, August 1, 2012 — Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has issued a Call for Proposals (CFP) for language training and other settlement and resettlement services to help newcomers succeed in their new lives in this country.
As existing projects wind down in 2012, the CFP will determine which projects will be funded for 2013 and beyond. The projects can be local, regional, national and/or international in scope.
Settlement and resettlement funds are used for programs and services that address newcomers’ needs, supporting their establishment and eventual integration into Canadian society; settlement funding is directed towards immigrants whereas resettlement funding is used for refugees. Services include language training, information/referrals, help finding employment that matches newcomers’ skills and education, and help establishing networks/contacts in their communities.
Since 2005-06, national settlement allocations outside Quebec have tripled, from less than $200 million to almost $600 million in 2012-13.
“The Call for Proposals process is an important way to solicit service delivery opportunities that will benefit newcomers, such as language training and career counselling, and ensure we are getting best value for taxpayers’ dollars,”
said Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney. “These services are invaluable in helping immigrants integrate into their new communities.”
This year, CIC is offering an e-submission page from which applicants can upload their application form and submit it online once completed. There will also be online tutorials and FAQs to assist applicants in completing their applications.
The Note 1]. However, organizations in these provinces are welcome to submit proposals for projects that are national and international in scope.
Additionally, the CFP does not apply to the Inter-Action Program (Multiculturalism) Projects stream. However, the Inter-Action Events stream, which provides funding of up to $15,000 for events, accepts applications year-round.

The deadline for submitting an application is September 7, 2012.
