Ottawa, October 19, 2012 — Laurie Mozeson has been appointed as a Citizenship Judge in Edmonton for a full-time, three-year term, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today. The appointment is effective October 29, 2012.
A barrister and solicitor with Alberta Justice for four years, Ms. Mozeson has 17 years of experience as a prosecutor, both with the federal Department of Justice and the Attorney General of Alberta. She served as a Justice of the Peace (Commissioner) in the Provincial Court of Alberta, Traffic Court Division.
Ms. Mozeson holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta. She is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, a past president of Beth Israel Synagogue, and was Vice President and Co-President of the Alberta Association of Sitting Justices of the Peace.
Citizenship judges are responsible for making decisions with regard to citizenship applications, presiding over citizenship ceremonies and administering the oath of citizenship to new citizens.
