“Today, Muslims in Canada and around the world are celebrating Eid al-Fitr. Falling on the first day of the month of Shawwal on the Islamic calendar, Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, a month of prayer, fasting, and charity.
“Known as the Festival of the Breaking of the Fast, Eid al-Fitr brings followers of Islam together for prayers, charitable giving, visits to friends and family, and festive meals.
“This day provides a wonderful opportunity for all Canadians to learn more about the Muslim faith and the contributions of the Muslim community Canada.
“As Minister for Multiculturalism, I extend my best wishes for a happy and peaceful Eid al-Fitr to all Canadian Muslims.
“Eid Mubarak.”
