Recent changes to the Citizenship Act plus Economic Action Plan funding have significantly improved the efficiency of the citizenship program. The Department is on track to eliminate the application backlog this fiscal year. Citizenship application processing times are now less than 12 months for new applicants.
As this graphic shows, at the end of April 2015, the grant application inventory was 238,000. The Department expects to reach its Target to eliminate the backlog and process applications in 12 months or less.
