Ottawa, May 23, 2012 — Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Jason Kenney announced today the names of the members of the Advisory Council for the International Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research (ITF).

The Advisory Council, chaired by former member of parliament Mario Silva and Senator Linda Frum, has 20 members representing major Canadian Holocaust and Jewish organizations, the Council of Ministers of Education Canada, the Canadian-Polish Congress, the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter Initiative and academic experts.

“I am confident that the members of the Advisory Council will support Mr. Silva, ITF Chair for 2013, in his important goal of advancing Holocaust education and remembrance—both in Canada and abroad—to combat anti-Semitism and all forms of racism and xenophobia,” said Minister Kenney.

Council appointments are for two-year terms, from March 2012 to March 2014. Meetings will take place twice a year over the next two years, and the first meeting took place yesterday in Toronto.

The ITF is an international organization comprised of 31 member countries devoted to Holocaust education, remembrance and research, both nationally and internationally. The ITF was established in 1998, and Canada became a full member in 2009.
