Ottawa, September 30, 2012 — The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, issued the following statement to recognize the Moon Festival:
Today, Canadians of Chinese and Vietnamese heritage will celebrate the Moon Festival. Also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, it occurs on the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the Lunar Calendar.
Family and friends will get together to celebrate the bounty of the summer harvest, while they eat delicious mooncakes. Tales of folklore will also be shared, adding to the rich history of the Moon Festival as these stories get passed down from generation to generation.
As Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, I extend my best wishes to all those celebrating the Moon Festival in Canada.
