Minister Kenney launches new Best Practices in Settlement Services Webpage

Ottawa, July 5, 2012 — Citizenship and Immigration Canada (Best Practices in Settlement Services webpage.

The purpose of the webpage is to create a single window to feature best practices from a broad range of stakeholders, sectors and disciplines including non-traditional service providers. Submissions for best practices were obtained through a national call to the settlement sector.  All submissions were then considered and assessed using criteria developed by a national panel of settlement experts from immigrant-serving organizations and government, and finally categorized under the various activity streams of CIC’s Settlement Program.

With the creation of the webpage the Government of Canada is delivering on a recommendation from the March 2010 House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration Report on Best Practices in Settlement Services to develop an interactive website on best practices in settlement services.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada funds an extensive network of immigrant service-providing organizations that are able to provide counselling and settlement assistance to newcomers. The webpage aims to promote innovative ways to assist immigrants in their integration into their new communities.
