Ottawa – April 6, 2012 – The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, and The Honourable John Baird, Minister of Foreign Affairs, issued the following statement marking the celebration of Passover:
We extend our warmest wishes to the millions of people who are gathering with loved ones across Canada and around the world to mark the start of Passover, which commemorates the Jewish people’s exodus from slavery.
Passover is a time of peaceful reflection of faith and joyous celebration of the Jewish people’s resilience then, and throughout history. At a time when the Jewish people, and the State of Israel in particular, continue to face the ancient evil of anti-Semitism, we are proud that Canada’s relationship with Israel has never been stronger.
As families sit around the seder table recounting the story of Passover to the next generation, we join with them in celebrating their strength of spirit and community. May all of the shared values that make our relationship so special and strong continue to flourish in the year ahead.
